Kellen and Kai wanted to try something new in 7th grade, so they joined the Evergreen Middle School track team. This year, the team had about 145 kids on it, evenly divided between boys and girls. It was a big team! But the boys had friends they got to see every day in the afternoon, and some new faces and people to meet, too.
Practices were held at the middle school, and meets were at the local high schools. We would drive the boys to the middle school so they could ride the bus with their team to the meet, and then just take them home when they were done with all of their events.
Some meets were chilly and other meets were temperate. The warmest meet was the last one, the All League Meet: 91 degrees. Whew! Bring out the water sprayer and the umbrella! Some of the meets were pretty long, so we brought snacks along with us to hold us over until dinner. At the last All League Meet we ordered pizza, which Owen picked up across the street and brought back to the fields for us, because the Javelin line was about an hour and fifteen minute wait. And that's how we got through the track dinner hour.
